Pushkin's tale of the Golden Cockerel (Zolotoy Petushok) rendered in a palette of burnished gold, deep scarlet, and royal purple. Each of the five dolls depicts a pivotal scene, from the astrologer's gift to Tsar Dadon through to the cockerel's final judgment. The artisan uses 24-karat gold leaf for the cockerel accents on each figure, making them shimmer against the rich, jewel-toned backgrounds.
